Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality, through the local Economic Development and Planning Department, honoured the top 20 Small, Micro and Medium Enterprises (SMMEs).
The entrepreneurial achievement was celebrated during the SMMEs Excellence Awards Gala Dinner 2026 on 22 September at Boeketlong Lodge in Mogoroane Village.
The awards recognised and celebrated the local entrepreneurs and beneficiaries of the Makhuduthamaga Youth Fund who continue to demonstrate meaningful impact, growth and progress following the receipt of the municipal grant funding and support programmes.
Municipal spokesperson Thomas Mashabela said the awards form part of the municipality’s efforts to recognise local enterprise development and highlight the contribution of SMMEs and cooperatives to job creation, economic participation and the revitalisation of the local economy.
“The achievement of the Top 20 award recipients highlights the potential of local entrepreneurship, targeted enterprise support and economic development initiatives to unlock opportunities and contribute to sustainable economic growth across Makhuduthamaga. The municipality has funded over 30 youth-owned businesses through the Makhuduthamaga Youth Fund since its launch, provided financial support to more than 40 small businesses and facilitated the creation of over 300 employment opportunities through its SMME support initiatives,” Mashabela said.
The wards further celebrated the enterprises and cooperatives that have previously received funding and support through the municipality’s SMME General Grant and Makhuduthamaga Youth Fund initiatives.
The beneficiaries continue to contribute to job creation, business growth and the revitalisation of the local economy.
Acting Mayor Makatishe Mosoane highlighted the opportunities presented by the agriculture, traditional products, arts and culture, tourism and local enterprise.
