The small town of Tubatse was brought to a standstill when the Gauta BMX cyclists returned from a documented trip in Cape Town.
The three Gauta Mahlakoane, Maxwell Ndou and Karabo Mokoo sensationally undertook the journey of more than 1700 kilometres journey from their hometown of Burgersfort to the Mother City with South Africans cheering them all the way and some even visiting them along the way.
The team undertook to trip with the aim of among other things raising awareness about the dangers of using drugs targeting youth in particular.
Among those who was moved by the cyclists were visited along the way and welcomed by among others prominent entertainer and music producer Dj Karri ( real name Karabo Mokgara) who is also a social activist.
Dj Karri’s endorsement resulted in a flood of sponsorship deals for the team including new bicycles, funds and ambassadorships.
Dj Karri announced on his social media pages that among others, US eatery Kentucky Fried Chicken has appointed Team Gauta as its brand ambassadors.
“ Thank you for all the donations and efforts from the nation, they well received by the boys and they are grateful. The Boys Are Officiallly KFC ambassadors.
We are officially moving to long term plans for the boys such Mercedes Benz SA & Raleigh SA etc,” said Dj Karri.

We started the long weekend early, and you know I had to hook up a handover of #KFCBottomlessBuckets for the rest of 2025 for these legends. As well as R10k cash and a fresh new kit for each of the gents,” said KFC in an announcement.
The Limpopo provincial government, Sekhukhune District Municipality and the local Fetakgomo-Tubatse municipality also honoured Team Gauta even going to the extent of sending a high level delegation comprising of not less than two MECs and Mayor Eddie Maila to welcome the trio when they arrived in Cape Town.
Premier Phophi Ramathuba announced that the team would be given platform by the provincial government to air their positive message that has inspired many across the country.
“The support we witnessed from Burgersfort, its resounding and those in the social media is amazing. I would like to thank everyone for their support and encourage everyone to follow their dreams always, never give up,” said one of the cyclists Maxwell Ndou.
