The body of the 42-year-old Jesaya Masha, who was reported missing from Ga-Masha Village on August 16, was recovered from Flag Boshielo Dam.
Provincial Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said Masha was reported missing at the Jane Furse police station.
Ledwaba said Masha’s body was discovered floating at the dam on 22 August. It is alleged that Masha left home travelling in a blue Hyundai that afternoon.
“His family subsequently reported him missing, prompting the police to circulate information regarding his disappearance and the vehicle. The investigation took a significant turn when the police received information that the missing man’s vehicle had allegedly been sold to a member of the public. The vehicle was subsequently handed over to the police for further investigation,” Ledwaba said.
Members of the Nebo-Jane Furse Tracking Team, Nebo and Sekhukhune detectives and the Sekhukhune Flying Squad arrested a 32-year-old suspect in Jane Furse on 21 August following an investigation.
“Police obtained information indicating that the victim had allegedly been kidnapped and murdered and his body had been disposed of in the Flag Boshielo Dam. A multidisciplinary team was immediately mobilised to search the identified area. On Saturday, 22 August, the operational team, joined by SAPS Water Wing and Emergency Medical Services, conducted an extensive search operation in the vicinity of the bridge at Flag Boshielo Dam. The search operation resulted in the discovery of the victim’s body in an advanced state of decomposition. The investigation continued, leading to the arrest of a 27-year-old man in Jane Furse on 23 August morning,” Ledwaba explained.
The arrested suspects are expected to appear before the Groblersdal Magistrate’s Court soon facing charges of kidnapping, murder and defeating the ends of justice.
