Leaners receive school uniforms and shoes

The South African Police Service (SAPS) Limpopo donated over 100 school uniforms and school shoes at Matsebong High School in Jane Furse on August 13.

Provincial Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the initiative reaffirms SAPS Limpopo’s commitment to the fight against poverty and inequality.

The police further issued certificates of merit to deserving learners and hardworking educators. Ledwaba said the initiative, supported by the SAPS Men for Change and Women’s Network, seeks to instil hope, restore dignity and support learners from less privileged backgrounds to remain focused on their education and continue pursuing their dreams.

The representatives from the Department of Social Development, Community Policing Forums, Youth Crime Prevention, Youth Against Crime, District Circuit Management, social partners and faith-based organisations participated in the initiative.

The learners were inspired to believe that their circumstances do not determine their future. They were encouraged to work hard, remain focused and wear their uniforms with pride. The learners were reminded that where they come from does not define where they are going.

Ledwaba said the initiative further sought to plant a seed of hope at the school and give back to the community.

An appeal was made to parents and educators to play an active role in nurturing and empowering the boy child.

It was also stressed that positive guidance and values must be instilled from a young age. Acting Makhuduthamaga mayor Tabane Rankwe welcomed the initiative.

Rankwe described the initiative as a demonstration of the collaboration between law enforcement and the education sector in investing in the leaders of tomorrow.

The management of the school, educators and learners appreciated the gesture, highlighting that the donation will improve the learning and teaching environment.
