The Polokwane High Court has sentenced Bobo Mokoena Mathibe (26) to an effective 19 years’ direct imprisonment for the murder and robbery of elderly farmer Robert Petrus Rodrick Stolzt in Roossenekal last year.
Sentence was handed down on May 11 following the April 30, 2025 attack at Hartelus Farm.
According to Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, Stolzt was assaulted with a steel rod while outside his home. He sustained severe injuries before being dragged into the house, where his hands were tied behind his back and a cloth stuffed into his mouth.
He later died from his injuries.
The attackers allegedly ransacked the house and stole R3 000 in cash and a pellet gun before fleeing in Stolzt’s Chery vehicle.
The stolen vehicle was later found after being involved in an accident near Burgersfort on the R555 road.
Police investigations led to the arrest of Mathibe and another suspect several weeks later. The second suspect was subsequently released after investigators could not link him to the crime.
Mathibe received 19 years’ imprisonment for murder and 10 years for robbery with aggravating circumstances. The court ordered the robbery sentence to run concurrently with the murder sentence, resulting in an effective 19-year jail term.
Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe welcomed the sentence and praised investigators for their dedication and teamwork.
