Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality (FTLM) has been selected as the second greenest in Limpopo Province with the more urban Polokwane Municipality being the number one green municipality.
The 2026 Limpopo Greening Municipality Awards hosted by the Limpopo Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism (LEDET) at Meropa Casino in Polokwane are used to honour local government authorities for commitment to environmental sustainability, effective waste management and community based greening projects.
The municipality achieved an impressive 79.2% performance score and received R150 000 in recognition of its efforts.
The award was received by Cllr Elsie Mokome, MMC for Community Services, who attended the ceremony in her capacity as Acting Mayor.
Speaking following the announcement, the Mayor of Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality, His Worship Cllr Eddie Maila, welcomed the achievement as a significant milestone.
“This recognition affirms that our efforts to build cleaner, greener and more sustainable communities are yielding measurable results. Being ranked second in the province for the first time in our history demonstrates progress, commitment and the collective responsibility of our communities and officials. We will continue to raise the bar and strengthen environmental governance across our Municipality,” the municipality quotes Mayor Eddie Maila as saying.
The municipality said it “remains committed to consolidating this progress and further enhancing sustainable environmental practices for the benefit of its residents”.
