Scores of people of all genders and age came together to take part in a health-fun walk that organisers said was meant to promote healthy lifestyles.

The walk held on tuesday is part of events marking Mandela Month and put together by the Limpopo Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, in collaboration with libraries belonging to the Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality.

The libraries of Groblesdal, Rossenekal, and Vlakfontein played a key role in organizing the event aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle and encouraging regular physical activity among community members.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from people of all ages, who gathered early in the morning to take part in the walk. From young children to senior citizens, the walk united participants in a shared goal of health and wellness. The atmosphere was filled with energy, joy, and a strong sense of community.
Organizers emphasized that the fun walk was not just about physical activity, but about fostering a culture of wellness that can be easily adopted by anyone.
Particicipants were reminded that maintaining a healthy lifestyle doesn’t always require expensive gym memberships or equipment but just motivation as well as a desire to take better care of one’s body and mind.
“The initiative forms part of the department’s broader mission to integrate recreational activities into the daily lives of citizens.
Through accessible events like this fun walk, the department aims to make fitness a regular, enjoyable part of community life.
It also hopes to shift perceptions and encourage individuals to prioritize their health in simple yet impactful ways,” said the department.
Beyond physical health, the walk also provided an opportunity for community members to connect, support one another, and share a positive experience. It strengthened social bonds while promoting individual responsibility for health and well-being.
“ As Mandela Month continues, this fun walk stands out as a powerful reminder of how small, community-driven initiatives can make a significant difference,” the department said.
The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, together with its partners, plans to continue hosting such events to build a healthier and more active Limpopo.
