Leadership flocks to Moria for Easter sermon

President Cyril Ramaphosa, joined magnitudes of congregants at the St Engenas Zion Christian Church (ZCC) Easter Sunday service held at Zion City Moria in Limpopo on the 5 April 2026, leading a large contingent of leaders from across government spheres.
The service, one of the most significant events on the church calendar, was led by His Grace the Right Reverend Bishop Dr Engenas Joseph Lekganyane, leader of the ST Engenas Zion Christian Church. The gathering drew political leaders, government officials, and members of various political parties, highlighting the importance of the occasion both spiritually and in terms of national cohesion.
Among those in attendance was Limpopo Premier, Phophi Ramathuba, who joined the President and other dignitaries in observing the Easter service. The annual pilgrimage to Moria continues to be a unifying event that brings together people from across the country to reflect on faith, renewal, and community values. It is during this service that the church expresses itself not only to its members but society in its broad terms, the country, government of the day and the entire world.
Several Limpopo MECs were also present including Kgabo Mogori who is responsible for the finance along with his public works, infrastructure and roads counterpart Ernest Rachoene. Their presence underscored the provincial government’s continued engagement with faith-based organisations and community structures.
Also in attendance was Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance, Namane Masemola, alongside key local government leaders, among others Polokwane John Mpe, Mayor of Mopani district Pule Shayi, and Eddie Maila who is the Mayor of Fetakgomo Tubatse Municipality.
The Speaker of the Limpopo Legislature, MakomaMakhurupetja, was also part of the delegation, along with other political and community leaders.
The Easter Sunday service at Moria is known for attracting large numbers of worshippers, particularly members of the ZCC, making it one of the biggest religious gatherings in the world, the biggest on the African continent. It serves as a moment of spiritual reflection and unity, while also providing an opportunity for leaders to engage with communities in a setting grounded in faith and tradition.
Leaders in attendance emphasised the importance of Easter as a time for renewal, hope, and social cohesion. The gathering at Moria once again demonstrated the enduring role of religious institutions in bringing people together and fostering a sense of shared purpose across the country.
