Sekhukhune Development Agency (SDA) and the Limpopo Economic Development Agency (LEDA) have formed partnership aimed at developing an Investment Mobilisation Strategy which will serve as a foundation towards the much-anticipated 2027 Sekhukhune Investment Conference.
During a meeting held on the sidelines of the Manufacturing and Processing Masterclass organised by the Limpopo Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) late in May in Polokwane, emphasis was put on clear implementation timeframes and institutional coordination for the successful delivery of the conference.
Sekhukhune District Municipality Executive Mayor Minah Bahula announced the conference earlier this year.
Bahula first announced the vision during a strategic planning session of the SDA in February, calling upon all stakeholders to unite behind a coordinated investment mobilisation programme for the district.
The conference is envisaged for March 2017 following the Limpopo Investment Conference expected to take place in November.
LEDA Group Chief Executive Officer Jason Ngobeni has reaffirmed LEDA’s commitment to supporting the SDA through the development of the investment strategy document targeted for delivery in July.
Ngobeni said the agency will deploy a highly skilled internal technical team to support the process.
Acting SDA CEO Dr Rosa Mdluli appreciated Ngobeni’s for his leadership at the time the agency needs help.
Mdluli highlighted that the partnership between SDA and LEDA demonstrates the alignment between the provincial and district economic development institutions in driving practical investment outcomes.
SDA Communications Officer Puleng Mmotla said the planned Sekhukhune Investment Conference forms part of the broader provincial strategy to ensure that regional investment conferences translate the high-level provincial investment pledges into localised and actionable economic projects.
Mmotla indicated that district-focused investment conferences are designed to ensure that local businesses, municipalities, cooperatives and SMMEs directly participate in emerging value chains.
“Regional investment conferences are increasingly becoming important tools for unpacking mega investment pledges into practical local opportunities. They help local businesses understand how they can integrate into mining supply chains, manufacturing ecosystems, agro-processing and infrastructure development projects emerging across the province,” Mmotla stated.
