Fans of contreversial rapper and Lekompo superstar Shebeshxt have been left devastated after the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court denied him bail effectively keeping him in detention throughout the festive season.
When he was arrested in November, Shebeshxt who’s real name is Lehlogonolo Chauke was already fully booked for the entire festive season and until Wednesday’s devastating ruling, his fans were hoping he would make a banger come back with killer performances but the state simply wouldn’t have none of it with the Investigating Officer Phaladi Makola telling the court the 30 year old hitmaker is not a first time offender and is prone to violence.
His next bail hearing has been scheduled for 19 January 2026, but prosecutors have warned that additional charges may be added following new evidence led in court.
Shebeshxt’s mostly young fans have sought to take out their frustration on the criminal justice system suggesting allowing with “haters” they are destroying their favourite musician’s career but Magistrate Godfrey Netshiozwi disagrees saying the youngster needed to reflect on his own choices.
“I must make this point. This is not personal. I for one have got nothing personal against the accused. The accused’s own conduct is what makes find ourselves here interpreting this provisions of the law to establish if exceptional circumstances exist. The accused could not prove exceptional circumstances for being released on bail. The accused can continue with the work that he does. No one will stand in his way but maybe it is for the accused to self reflect,” said the Magistrate as he handed down his ruling dashing hopes of him performing anywhere in the forceable future.
The ruling follows an intense bail hearing that span for days with the state vehemently opposing his release and painting him as a danger to society. In the current matter the musician faces charges of attempted murder, assault, robbery, possession of an unlicensed firearm with the Investigating Officer indicating more charges may follow.
Makola said Shebeshxt also has older offenses to answer to including two of attempted murder which he says have been set down for trial in February
South Africans on social media reacted with mixed feelings to the ruling with some arguing the system is breaking a youngster while others believe he should be taught a lesson before he kills an innocent person.
