Four officials of the Molemole Local Municipality in Limpopo have been arrested on fraud and corruption charges related to their role in alleged circumvention of tender procedures as well as public procurement regulations.
The Hawks’ serious crimes and corruption unit carried out the arrests on Wednesday 15 April following an investigation into alleged procurement irregularities.
“It is alleged that the officials were involved in the omission of proper tender procedures, in contravention of the Municipal Finance Management Act,” said the HAWKS in Limpopo in a statement released by provincial spokesperson Colonel Avele Fumba.
The HAWKS said the municipality which serves impoverished communities including Sekgosese and Botlokwa suffered financial losses as a result of the four’s actions.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the alleged misconduct may have resulted in financial prejudice to the municipality. The exact value is still subject to verification as investigations continue,” said the HAWKS of the investigation that it said dates back to 2024.
The suspects are currently detained at Mogwadi Police Station and appeared at the Senwabarwana Magistrate’s Court on today ( Friday 17 April 2026).
The HAWKS said more arrests would follow.
“This development forms part of a broader ongoing investigation and more arrests are imminent as the net continues to close on all those allegedly involved in the scheme,”said the elite unit.
The statement quotes the Hawks’ Acting Provincial Head Brigadier Lesiba Malapile as reaffirming the unit’s commitment to “uprooting corruption within state institutions, emphasising that no individual, regardless of rank or position, will be spared when implicated in acts that undermine public trust and service delivery,” said the Hawks in the statement.
