Kholofelo Makena, co-founder of Broadway Legacy Foundation, made the community of Sekhukhune district proud when she won an accolade during the 2025 Limpopo Business Woman of the Year Awards.
Makena, born in Mabitsi Village and raised in Tafelkop, bagged the Inspirational Woman of the Year award for which she contended with five other women who were nominated in the category. The awards were held at the Bolivia Estate in Polokwane on 9 August.
She believes that winning the award is not only about her but the communities she serves and people who walk the journey with her through her foundation.
“I believe I was recognised because of the work we’ve done and continue doing through our organization to empower youth, combat Gender-Based Violence and Femicide, being a voice to the voiceless through free legal services and mediation and creating safe spaces for learning and growth. My leadership has always been rooted in collaboration, compassion and the belief that change starts where one is and with what they have,” Makena shared.
The winner stated that the award reflects the passion, resilience and teamwork that go into building hope in communities.
She expressed gratitude to her organization’s funders, stakeholders and change-makers in various communities, adding, “I am truly overwhelmed by the love, support and prayers we receive. God has done it.”
Makena further thanked everyone who played a role in ensuring that she brings the award home. “Thank you for believing in this journey. Every prayer and word of encouragement fuels our mission to serve. Let us keep working together to empower communities, uplift lives and leave a legacy of hope,” Makena appreciated.
