Young footballers from Lerajane in Mohlaletse are preparing for an exceptional opportunity as they gear up to showcase their talents against Baroka FC’s youth teams on June 7.
The exciting matchday will feature three age categories – under-13, under-19, and under-21 – with all games scheduled to take place at Ngwanamohube sports ground in Ga-Mphahlele.
Mogau Phala, head coach for Lerajane United Brothers’ youth divisions, expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming challenge. According to Phala, this valuable opportunity materialised through his own initiative when he approached Baroka FC.
“I was traveling to Lebowakgomo when I noticed the gates at Global Stadium were open,” Phala explained. “I approached them and requested an opportunity for Lerajane United Brothers to compete against Baroka FC. When they approved and I shared the news with my players, their excitement was tremendous. This announcement even attracted more young players to join our team.
Phala said that his motivation for arranging matches against professional teams extends beyond football itself. “My goal is to give these youngsters hope that there’s a future in football. I aim to combat drug addiction among young boys – if we allow them to wander the streets aimlessly, they’ll likely turn to substances. As the saying goes, ‘Mohlare o kobja e sale o monanana’.”
The coach expressed satisfaction that Baroka FC might select promising players for their development program. “What makes me even happier is that Baroka FC might recruit one or two players who impress them on the day. We deeply appreciate Baroka for providing this opportunity and we take it very seriously.”
Phala extended gratitude to parents for entrusting their children to his guidance. He also appealed to local businesses and parents to assist with transportation on match day to ensure smooth operations.
“Transportation can sometimes be challenging. We’re doing our best, but assistance in this regard would be tremendously beneficial,” he concluded.

Lerajane United youngsters also play in the local league. They are currently sitting at position 4 with 17 points after playing 10 games. They are 13 points behind log leaders, Dinoko FC.
