Police have launched separate investigations into two murder cases reported in the Sekhukhune District since the beginning of April, with suspects still at large.
In the first incident, police in Rakgoadi are searching for a suspect linked to the murder of a 40-year-old man in Mohlalaotoane Village on Saturday, April 4.
Limpopo police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, said the victim died after being struck on the head with a sharp object.
“It is alleged that the deceased was seen outside a local tavern arguing with an unknown man. When the argument escalated, the victim attempted to flee, but the suspect pursued him and cornered him in nearby bushes, where he was fatally attacked,” Ledwaba said.
Emergency Medical Services personnel declared the man dead at the scene. The suspect fled and has not yet been arrested.
Police have opened a murder case and investigations are ongoing.
In a separate incident in Burgersfort, police are investigating the murder of a 35-year-old man whose body was discovered in Mareseleng Village on Monday, April 6.
Community members searching for firewood in a nearby mountain area made the discovery.
Ledwaba said the deceased, who was later identified as Reuben Thobejane, had sustained a fatal throat wound.
“Police were summoned to the scene where the body was found. The deceased was wearing a red T-shirt and blue jeans, both stained with blood,” he said.
A manhunt for the suspect or suspects is underway.
Police have urged anyone with information that could assist in the investigations to contact Constable Thabiso Mohlamonyane on 066 480 4091 or Constable Peter Muvhango on 076 226 7035.
