The Mayor of Modimolle-Mookgophong Local Municipality Anna Mboweni has called civil society and the business community in Modimolle, Waterberg District, to provide support to the Malesela family following a fire that claimed four lives.
Elisa Malesela was sleeping with her three children aged 3, 10 and 11 at Phagameng Extension 12, Modimolle on Tuesday night when their shack caught fire leading to their tragic demise.
The mayor visited the bereaved family accompanied by the Municipal Chief Whip, Mokgadi Dayimane, Mayor Mboweni to offer comfort and support the loved ones battle to come to terms with the tragedy.
“We are deeply saddened by this devastating loss. No family should ever have to endure such unimaginable pain. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Masalesa family as they mourn the loss of their loved ones. We pray that they find strength and comfort during this difficult period,” said Mayor Mboweni during the visit.
The Mayor appealed to businesses, community organisations, faith-based institutions, and members of the public to join hands in supporting the grieving family with burial arrangements and any other assistance they may require.
“The spirit of Ubuntu calls upon all of us to stand together in times of sorrow. We urge those who are able to assist to come forward and help the family give their loved ones a dignified farewell,” she said.
The cause of the fire is yet to be established and police have opened an inquest.
