Soccer enthusiasts from Ga-Sekhukhune will have a golden opportunity to witness the national team, Bafana Bafana, in action as South Africa’s pride takes to the field for two international friendly matches at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

The people of Ga Sekhukhune and surrounding areas in Limpopo province can look forward to seeing their favorite stars up close when Bafana Bafana faces Tanzania and Mozambique in back-to-back friendly encounters. This rare treat comes after a change in venue arrangements that has resulted in both matches being hosted at the impressive Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Initially, the plan was to have the Tanzania match in Polokwane on Friday, followed by the Mozambique game at Loftus Stadium in Pretoria. However, due to scheduling conflicts, including the United Rugby Championship semifinal at Loftus, both international friendlies have been relocated to Polokwane.

This is a fantastic opportunity for soccer lovers in Ga Sekhukhune who often have to travel long distances to see national team games. Having Bafana Bafana play twice at Peter Mokaba Stadium will allow more fans from the region to experience international soccer firsthand.

Fans are encouraged to secure their tickets early, as a capacity crowd is expected for both matches. The games will serve as important preparation for Bafana Bafana ahead of their upcoming competitive fixtures.

For many in Ga Sekhukhune, this will be a chance to see their national heroes in action without having to travel to major centers like Johannesburg or Pretoria.

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos said that the results of the two friendly matches are not important as he aims to give all 23 selected players a chance, particularly those who are new to the team.

“I think these two matches are great opportunities for the new players and also the younger players who have joined us. There is no pressure when one plays friendly matches, and from my side, I will give every player the same amount of game time,” he said.

Limpopo MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture, Funani Maseko and the Executive Mayor of Polokwane Cllr. Makoro Mpe and the CEO of Limpopo Tourism Agency, Mr. Ngobeni had a meet and greet session with Bafana Bafana on Wednesday afternoon at the Ranch Hotel ahead of the International Friendly matches against Tanzania to be held at New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Friday and Mozambique on Tuesday, 10 June 2025 at the same venue.
