The 10 young men who tragically lost their lives following an accident which occurred on the D4370 road between Mogaladi and Nebo on July 18 were buried on Saturday.
Hundreds of mourners gathered at the Makwetle Secondary School in Mathukuthela Village in honour of the mass funeral service.
The deceased are from Mathukuthela and Disenyane villages within Ward 16 of Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality.
They were identified as Lehwelere Percy Monakedi (24) and Mahlatse Derick Monakedi (32) who are brothers, Monyewane Patrick Boshielo (30), Makatsile Frans Mashilo (23), Motubatse Abraham Mamakoko (27) and his younger brother, Serame Jacob Mamakoko (17), Thato Mothupi Motsoaledi (23), Abraham Motuku Mahlare (31), Tsima Terrence Mampuru (23) and Motshele David Theledi (26).
Nine of the young victims perished on the scene after a crash involving a VW Polo and a Toyota Tazz. Preliminary investigations revealed that over speeding is the cause of the accident. The tenth fatality was recorded last Tuesday after one of the victims died in hospital.
Four passengers were in the VW Polo and Five in the Toyota Tazz. Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM) Executive Mayor Minah Bahula announced plans for an interfaith prayer and spiritual cleansing ceremony during the funeral to be held at the scene of the accident.
The district municipality, government departments, faith-based organisations and other stakeholders will lead the initiative.
SDM committed to continue providing psychological support with sector departments to the bereaved families.
Bahula said the interfaith prayer and cleansing ceremony is aimed at bringing comfort, healing and hope to communities.
