A manhunt is active for unknown suspects who sprayed bullets on a VW Jeta sedan with four male occupants in Tafelkop, resulting in the deaths of two victims and the remaining two sustaining gunshot wounds.
Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, Limpopo Provincial Police spokesperson, said the incident occurred at Mashitaneng Village on 18 October at about 12:50.
Ledwaba confirmed that SAPS Motetema is investigating two counts of murder and two of attempted murder following the fatal attack.
Ledwaba informed that after police rushed to the vicinity following receipt of information about the shooting, they found a cream-white VW Jeta parked on the side of the road with four men who had sustained gunshot wounds.
“Upon further investigation, police noticed multiple bullet holes on the side of the motor vehicle and a firearm. The members of the Emergency Medical Services were summoned and they declared dead two of the men on the scene. The other two victims aged 38 and 51 were transported to a local hospital to receive medical treatment,” Ledwaba explained.
He added that reports indicated that the victims were seated inside the vehicle when they were suddenly shot after a grey VW Polo sedan emerged and stopped from the opposite direction.
“The suspects fired shots at the victims and immediately drove off from the scene in the VW Polo that had no registration numbers,” Ledwaba stated.
He further said the motive of the incident is unknown at this stage. Police request anyone with information to contact investigating officer, Constable Hulisani Belemo on 060 801 5141, the crime stop number 08600 10111, approach the nearest police station or use the MySAPSApp.
