Sekhukhune District Municipality has unveiled a fleet of 26 new vehicles in a move it believes as marking another milestone in strengthening municipal service delivery.
The fleet secured through a three-year lease agreement with a private service provider, with the Municipality intending to settle ownership of the vehicles at the end of the lease period.
The investment follows the recent acquisition of three TLBs received last month which are expected to enhance the Municipality’s operational capacity.
The municipality said the vehicles, handed over during a ceremony in Groblersdal, will be allocated across all regions of the district according to service delivery needs and will primarily support operations as well as maintenance in infrastructure, water, and sanitation services.
Executive Mayor Minah Bahula said the vehicles must be used responsibly and and strictly for their intended purpose which is to improve service delivery.
“These service delivery vehicles must be used for what they are meant for. They will strengthen service delivery projects as well as operation and maintenance,” said the mayor during the handover.
The Mayor said the expanded fleet presents an opportunity for the Municipality to increase the number of drivers, creating potential employment opportunities for local residents.
