Maphopha remembered as a dedicated man

Friends, family members and artists as well as politicians gathered at in Motetema Township on November 9 to pay their last respect to the 24-year-old Vincent Maphopha.

Maphopha’s life was cut short following a collision which occurred on 31 October in Polokwane. He was driving the vehicle that was transporting Limpopo musician Melita Makoma Ribane (21), affectionately known as Kharishma, which was involved in a collision as they were returning from a performance in Limpopo in the early hours of that morning.

Kharishma and one other passenger have since been admitted to hospital with severe injuries following the accident.

Limpopo MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture Jerry Maseko also joined the mourners, accompanied by Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality councillors as well as those from Sekhukhune District Municipality.

The MEC was also accompanied by Head of Department Kgathane Veronica Mokgonyana. Maphopha was buried at the neigbouring Ngwalemong Cemetery.

He was also a final-year Plant Production student at the University of Limpopo. Maseko expressed his heartfelt condolences to the Maphopha family and the music fraternity in Limpopo province.

Maseko encouraged the youth to continue pursuing education and their passion with the same dedication that Maphopha displayed.

“Maphopha represented the values of humility, dedication and service – the qualities we must continue to honour as we celebrate his life,” Maseko concluded.

Maphopha was further honoured for his passion for supporting local artists and contributing to Limpopo province’s vibrant music scene.
