The zero-percent pass rate of Naledi Ya Meso Secondary School in the 2025 National Senior Certificate results prompted Limpopo Premier Dr. Phophi Ramathuba’s visit to the school in Dikgalaopeng Village outside Tafelkop on January 15.
The premier’s visit aimed to get firsthand experience of the challenges the school is facing.
The premier encouraged the 2026 Grade 12 learners not to dwell on the disgraceful performance displayed by the class of 2025 and ensure that the school’s result improve next year.
The school in the Sekhukhune South education district attracted attention after it recorded a 0% pass rate from the 15 learners who wrote matric in 2025.
It is facing challenges of low numbers in terms of learner enrolment as affording parents prefer to take their children to other schools in the surrounding areas.
One-hundred and thirty-five learners had enrolled at the infrastructurally improved institution last year from Grade 8 to 12. Ninety-nine learners have enrolled for this year.
Ramathuba expressed love, hope and motherly words of encouragement to the learners and promised that the school will not be closed despite the shortcomings.
The premier announced plans for the adoption of Naledi Ya Meso to improve its academic performance.
She assured the remaining learners, whose parents cannot afford transport fee to take them to other schools, that they will be supported by Limpopo MEC for Education, Mavhungu Lerule Ramakhanya.
