Wilfred Moruthanyane Nkadimeng (61), convicted of murders of his wife, stepdaughter and another man, has been sentenced to 83 years imprisonment after he was convicted of three counts of murder and one of attempted murder.
The Limpopo Division of the High Court ordered that the sentences run concurrently, resulting in an effective 25 years jail term.
The court further declared Nkadimeng unfit to possess a firearm in terms of Section 103 of the Firearms Control Act 60 of 2000.
Mashudu Malabi-Dzangi, NPA Limpopo Regional spokesperson, said Nkadimeng had pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Malabi-Dzangi stated that evidence presented by the state revealed that the convict fatally shot his estranged wife, Themia Clara Morema following an argument on 26 September 2022.
“The court heard that Nkadimeng then shot and killed Tlou Solomon Molokomme who had arrived at the scene and later his stepdaughter Nomasonto Morema. It was further heard that he also shot at a tenant but missed,” Malabi-Dzangi added.
Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, Advocate Lethabo Mashiane led the Victim Impact Statement compiled by Court Preparation Officer, Morongwe Moifo, in aggravation of sentence, indicating the devastating effect of the murders.
The court heard how the wife was the pillar of the family and how she was described as glue that held the family together.
It was also heard how the tragic deaths of both the mother and daughter left the family shattered and forced them to assume responsibility for raising Themia’s child and her grandchildren.
Advocate Mashiane argued that the offences were premeditated and committed within the context of domestic violence, stating that Nkadimeng’s refusal to acknowledge the harm he caused further justified a severe sentence.
Limpopo Director of Public Prosecutions, Advocate Ivy Thenga said it can never be overemphasised how important human life is and they would therefore, remain vigorous in cases such as Nkadimeng’s to serve as a deterrent to would-be murderers.
Thenga further lauded Mashiane and Sergeant Lerato Lefala of SAPS Tubatse for their excellent work in securing the conviction and sentence.
